Student Safety is our Top Priority!

Dear Foothill Oak Families,

There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our students, and to improve in this area, changes will be made at Foothill Oak in accordance with district board and administrative policy.  To ensure the smooth implementation of these changes, we believe it is important to communicate with you the changes that will be implemented over the next few months.  These changes will be fully implemented with the installation of a new front gate during the summer of 2014. We will be implementing some of the changes prior to the summer, and will finalize our plan when the new year starts and our new gate is installed.

The District-wide emphasis on school safety includes the following:

  • Before and after school, only students and staff will be allowed inside the campus perimeter.
  • Parents can access staff, as they normally would, via the sign in/sign out procedure in the office for meetings, volunteer work, and other routine needs.
  • While in session, school perimeters will be secure.
  • During arrival and dismissal, the front gate will be open and supervised.
  • Employees will wear badges at all times.  Visitors will wear a Visitor Pass.
  • Students shall be released during the school day only to the custody of an adult in possession of a valid, government issued photo identification card and if:
    • The adult is the student’s custodial parent/guardian
    • The adult has been authorized on the student’s emergency card as someone to whom the student may be released and the custodial parent/guardian has given authorization by contacting the school
    • The adult has been authorized on the student’s emergency card and the custodial parent/guardian cannot be reached, after the principal or designee verifies the adult’s identity

We want to thank our community for sharing this value of safety, and though some of procedures may not go in to effect until this summer, they are for the benefit of our students, staff, and parents.

Sincerely,

Sandra Ceja
